The Bastepe Lab investigates endocrine diseases that involve mineral ion metabolism and skeletal health. We are primarily interested in diseases caused by disrupted G protein signaling and GPCR actions. Using a wide range of in vitro and in vivo experimental approaches, our studies currently focus on the GNAS complex locus, an imprinted gene giving rise to the alpha-subunit of the stimulatory G protein (Gsα), regarding its role in hormone signaling and responsiveness. Our research also entails the roles of Gq/11 signaling in regulating bone physiology and mineral ion metabolism.
